CONTESTANT RULES

Basic Rules
→ Each week, a new motive will be provided.
→ Only one murder plot may occur in a given week, although multiple victims are acceptable.
→ No individual may kill more than two players in any given week.
→ Once a death occurs, a trial will be found to determine the guilty party. Investigation and discussion time will be allowed prior to the trial and voting. The culprit will be one among a list of suspects provided.
→ Each player must vote from the list of suspects. No abstentions will be permitted, and attempts to avoid the vote will be punished by death.
→ The suspect who receives the most votes will be executed, regardless of guilt.
→ Should the guilty party be executed, the players will be informed of the guilt.

→ No one will be permitted to sleep anywhere but their assigned bedrooms.
→ No one will be permitted to take food out of the proper room at mealtimes.
→ No bodies or body parts shall be left in the drawing room, save once a trial has begun.

Investigations
→ An investigation begins once the body has been found. Once three individuals have discovered the body, the grandfather clock will chime to herald the investigation.
→ If the body is hidden, players will be informed of the death no later than Thursday at noon.
→ An autopsy report detailing the condition of the body will be provided.
→ All clues found may be disclosed at trial. If a player chooses to withhold evidence, the deception may be revealed.

Murders
→ Culprits may use any and all available means to commit the crime.
→ An accidental death or a killing in self-defense will still be considered a crime.
→ It is permissible for a culprit to work with an accomplice. However, the prizes rewarded will be determined by the number of victims. Therefore, an accomplice will not be rewarded unless there is a victim in addition to the original.
→ An accomplice will always be listed among the suspects, but only one execution will take place.
→ The true culprit will be the one who most directly commits the deed.

Prizes
→ A week's motives and prizes will always be announced Monday evening.
→ Prizes will only be rewarded to a culprit who successfully commits murder and survives the trial.
→ A successful killer may choose to retire from the game. He or she will remain in the manor, but there will be no reward for causing his or her death.
→ A successful killer may choose to continue to play for additional, personalized prizes. In this case, his or her guilt will not be revealed to the other players.

Incentives
→ Incentives may include helpful tools, gifts, or information.
→ Players who are deemed to have performed well will be given special incentives for their trouble.
→ Players who are deemed to have performed poorly will be made into incentives. A culprit who successfully kills such a player will be given an incentive.
→ The players who are considered most valuable may receive "immunity." A crime with an immune player as victim will not be eligible for prizes.
→ A list of player performances and which players are incentives will be provided Sunday afternoon.

Rules for the Final Ten
→ Meals will now be taken in the dining room. Breakfast will take place from 7 AM to 9 AM. Lunch will be provided from noon to 1 PM. Dinner takes place from 6 PM to 8 PM. All players are expected to attend meals and arrive promptly.

→ Retired players may now play again! They will receive permanent immunity status, but are permitted to participate in earning incentives and will be able to vote at trials!
→ Any player who succeeds in killing and getting away with it at trial will be permitted to return home with all unclaimed prizes!
→ In the event any player is successful, all other players will be executed.
→ The game will end when one player succeeds in killing and going home or if the identity of the Mastermind is proven beyond any doubt.

Each week, one culprit will succeed in killing their victim. But the game doesn't end there, as a murderer must also succeed in covering up their crime. If you are interested in being the culprit for this week, please fill out the following and post it under the appropriate heading below.

Designated killers may also fill this out; if they would prefer to only be chosen if there is no regular killer this week, please make note of that.

Please read the following, and then fill out the form:

Character Name: Your character's name.

Intended Victim: It is all right to list more than one potential victim and let us choose, but please don't list more than 5. It's also all right to talk to the player of the intended victim beforehand, but not required.

Plot: Please be very detailed. Describe how your character will get the victim alone (or, if the victim won't be premeditated, how they will choose their victim), what tools or skills they will use, how the kill would ideally happen, and the steps your character will take in covering up the crime or framing someone else.

Where it goes wrong: Even the best laid plans can be frustrated. What mistakes could be made in the heat of the moment? What actions might the victim take to upset the plans? Where would bad luck or poor planning trip the character up? Describe what might point detectives to your character as culprit, and if possible give specific clues. Clues can include things left behind, a particular time and place your character would have been seen, alibi, the condition of the body, and the use of their specific skills or items. This is required, but if your character would be very thorough you can assume bad luck or producer manipulation.

Suspects: Suggest several potential suspects other than your character. This can be characters your character might be trying to frame, or just anyone you think would be another possible culprit.

To apply, please read the following and fill out the form below:

Player Information
Name:

Contact: Plurk is preferred. All contact information will be kept private.

Were you in Hunters’ Game? If so, please list who you played.

Were you invited? This game is by invitation only. You have only been invited if a mod had directly confirmed this to you. If you have not been invited and want to be, please contact a mod and ask.

Second character? We are now open for second characters, but please specify and put that in the header of your comment as well. Characters will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis regardless of whether it's a first or second character, but if you would like us to pass by your app until all first character slots are filled, please put SECOND PRIORITY in the header of your comment.

I have read the rules and understand the activity requirements: This is a game with complex rules that will hinge on players understanding those rules and committing to a high standard of activity. Beyond basic activity requirements, it is essential that players be ready to really participate and be involved in the game. Anyone dropping out (or remaining in the game but being inactive) will have a serious negative impact on the game as a whole, and short of illness or a serious personal emergency dropping is completely unacceptable and will result in banning from any future games. Please only respond in the affirmative to this question if you have carefully read all the rules and have seriously considered whether you can commit to the game.

Character Information

Canon:
Age:

(Brief) Canon Description Please briefly describe your canon. A few sentences or a link to a wiki page will suffice.

Personality/Background Please briefly describe your characters’ personality and background. A paragraph or so will suffice – we don’t need you to hit everything, and this is for our information, not to evaluate you.

Plot Information
Motivations Please describe things/people/goals of importance to your character and motivations that might inspire them to kill. Be creative – it should be possible to create a motivation for almost any character. If there are absolutely no circumstances where your character would kill someone else, please describe why they are suited for a game like this, how they will react to the game, and what they will bring to the game. Please be detailed in this section.

Memory Loss Describe what memories your character will lose. This is up to you; it can be a small part of their lives, an important person or moment, a particular period of time, etc. You are encouraged to use this loss to increase your characters' sense of desperation or likelihood of participating, but what you choose to do is up to you.

Skills Please describe any special skills or abilities (supernatural or otherwise – being a trained detective, having medical training, or even being a good cook are some examples of skillsets). We will be nerfing some powers but not removing them entirely; if you character is very highly powered (to the extent it would be difficult for them to be in a fair fight with non-powered characters due to unnatural abilities), it would be helpful to describe how you think they should function nerfed.

Items For the most part, your characters won’t be bringing anything with them, including their clothes. Magical items or technology will not be likely to be brought. However, if there is anything from your canon you think would either be interesting in a murder mystery or very difficult to play your character without, please describe it. We may approve it or we may reserve it as a gift for your character later on.

Murder Mystery Please write a hypothetical murder your character might commit. Include a hypothetical motive, a hypothetical victim of the type they might target, how they will get the victim alone, how they will commit the murder, how they will try to cover up the murder, and weaknesses and clues that could be used to pin them as the murderer. Be detailed and creative; this is to ensure you have thought through your character in the game, but you may also be able to use this in game.

If there are absolutely no circumstances where your character would commit a murder, describe a hypothetical murder where your character is a victim and how they will try to escape or ensure their killer is caught.

Plot Involvement
I would be okay with my character being a ‘designated killer’ Your character might get selected to be in the group of designated killers describe in the rule. Only say yes if you know you will be active every week and your character has potential strong motives to kill.

I would be okay with my character being chosen as the Mastermind There may or may not be a mastermind hidden among the players. Your character could be chosen for this. The mastermind must be able to commit to being very active throughout the entire game, and will live to the end. Only say yes if you are certain you will be able to be very active. If you can’t think of a motive for your character to do this, don’t worry – one will be provided.
