graveyard pt ii

the theatre

You awaken in a darkened theatre.

In front of you is an enormous cinema screen. On it plays everything that's currently happening in the castle, accompanied by appropriate sound effects and background instrumentals when fitting. The seat you're sitting on is large and plush, and while there's many of them, there's enough room in the theatre for you to fully recline the seat into a comfortable bed if you wish. Under each seat is a sleeping mask and noise-cancelling headphones, in case you'd like to take a break from watching the show.

Follow the stairs up and you'll reach what should be the projection room. There are no projectors in here, however; it is simply a large and well-lit room above the main seating area, and a good place to hang out with your fellow eliminated contestants if shouting at each other across the aisles proves too much to handle.

If you leave the theatre through the door in the back, you'll find yourself in a hall. On one end is a concession stand. It's stocked with standard movie snacks - popcorn, candy and the like - but if you're feeling the urge for something else, you'll be able to find it stocked somewhere in the back. On the other end is a table with thirty wrapped bags and a placard reading 'A star for our stars! Please accept these lovely giftbags as a token of appreciation for your hard work, sponsored by [illegible smudge]'. Each bag has a tag bearing the name of someone in the mansion; you will only be able to open the bag with your name on it. As soon as you open it, any memories that have been taken from you, including those of the other people in the mansion that you may have forgotten, will be returned in their entirety. Within the bag are also objects from your home that you may want for your stay here, though you will find no weapons.

Past the hall is another door, this one wooden and seemingly decayed. If you go inside, you'll find a fairly simple, wooden room, that is empty except for a very large machine. It is difficult to tell what the machine is for; it has a touch screen that appears to be a control panel, as well as a large open space that seems to be part of the machine, but the machine is dead and won't turn on no matter what you do.

Still, at least you aren't alone here. You have your fellow players, as well as a few guests to keep you company.

Oh, and one more thing. At midnight following each execution, once all those who've died that week have woken up, a video will begin to play on screen.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya holds Karkat's face in both hands and stares down at him as she says something very stern. (Grab)

[RUSHING IN BEFORE SHE CAN FINISH THAT SENTENCE. Chizuru has seen a little bit of how fast Kanaya can be over the past few days. She is putting a hand on her shoulder.]

You made a promise. Chizuru, you made a promise.
derepressed: (there is despair here)

I... I know, but...

[She glances at Kanaya, then looks down at her feet.] The memory loss might not be... permanent, and...

[She can't finish that sentence, either.]

...I don't want to forget him even for a second...
speakveryclearly: Kanaya, chin in hands, looks over, eyes narrowed, at sad Karkat sitting right beside her. Diamond hangs in the air. (Unrequited)

I just think it's a bad idea... and I don't even mean because you should be able to reconcile with him. [The last person Kanaya knew from childhood who turned out to be psychotic is sitting there gathering dust and lint in a coma. She has always had her doubts about the feeling that forgiveness ought to be automatic for little sisters.]

You have your team... and so many other people who would try to use that forgetfulness to get power over you.
derepressed: (talk about overcompensating...)

[personal profile] derepressed 2014-08-07 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
...power over...?

[She looks confused for a moment or two before she realizes that, yeah - there are people out there who it would be really dangerous for her to forget. Kazama is one of them.

Just remembering the demon makes her shudder, and she wraps her arms around herself, clearly uncomfortable.]

...it's true. There are many people I met between that time and now that it wouldn't be wise for me to forget.

Is it really okay for me to be selfish, though...? [She really worries that people are going to be very much opposed to letting a designated killer keep her memories.]
speakveryclearly: Kanaya, white as cinderblocks, burning with platonic hate manifest in a dark squiggle over her head. (Bitter)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2014-08-07 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ten people are going to receive that privilege, and that's just if--

[Kanaya breaks off, suddenly, removing her shoulder as Chizuru's arms tighten, and turns her head away.]

I'm sorry for keeping this secret so long... I really didn't want anyone to worry until we were sure another way hadn't come up yet...
derepressed: (of course i look uncomfortable)

[personal profile] derepressed 2014-08-07 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
...it isn't your fault. I think, if I were in your position... I'd have done the same thing.

[What good would fretting over it so far in advance do?]

I'd prefer not to forget. But if there aren't enough people who volunteer... can I count on you to apologize to Kaoru for me? I'll do everything in my power to remember what I'll have forgotten, but - I can't in good conscience ask anyone to forget in my place.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya rendered with ugly realism, staring at the viewer like rotten meat. (Undead)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2014-08-07 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Kanaya's face gets that blood-drained-out look before becoming firm.] I'll do... everything I can to make him understand.

[Because Kanaya feels like she can - and that's a part of why she hated Chizuru so much at first, presenting herself as an authority when Kanaya had three years of solid experience that she couldn't openly explain. She'll have to very heavily criticize Chizuru's teammates to make the sell and diminish her culpability, probably, but that was going to happen anyway.]
derepressed: (doom and gloom)

[personal profile] derepressed 2014-08-07 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
...thank you.

[But then Stiles straight-up says that Kaoru needs her to remember so that should probably be enough to get through to her. ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL let's just hope they get enough volunteers...]
