Which is why when she glances up at the first hiccuping noise, she goes still to see him rubbing at the one under the patch and almost reaches out a hand as if she might tug his away from that eye. Surely it must hurt?
But she just doesn't know, so she awkwardly lets her hand fall as she looks to him, all but holding her breath until he nods. Then she doesn't even know what to do. Maybe she should smile for him? Yes, that seems like the appropriate response. She gives it a valiant attempt, but-- no. Peko no. Please. So she stops trying to smile and just... waits for him to stop crying. She's not going to try to hug him again until she knows why he pulled away in the first place, so she just kind of sits there, rubbing at her own eyes and shoving her glasses back on. At least one of them should look vaguely composed.
And then she almost starts crying when he starts speaking again, just-- nodding. No words. When she speaks she hecks things up, so she just nods again, in case there was any doubt. Yes to being here. Yes to not being his tool.
