graveyard

the theatre

You awaken in a darkened theatre.

In front of you is an enormous cinema screen. On it plays everything that's currently happening in the castle, accompanied by appropriate sound effects and background instrumentals when fitting. The seat you're sitting on is large and plush, and while there's many of them, there's enough room in the theatre for you to fully recline the seat into a comfortable bed if you wish. Under each seat is a sleeping mask and noise-cancelling headphones, in case you'd like to take a break from watching the show.

Follow the stairs up and you'll reach what should be the projection room. There are no projectors in here, however; it is simply a large and well-lit room above the main seating area, and a good place to hang out with your fellow eliminated contestants if shouting at each other across the aisles proves too much to handle.

If you leave the theatre through the door in the back, you'll find yourself in a hall. On one end is a concession stand. It's stocked with standard movie snacks - popcorn, candy and the like - but if you're feeling the urge for something else, you'll be able to find it stocked somewhere in the back. On the other end is a table with thirty wrapped bags and a placard reading 'A star for our stars! Please accept these lovely giftbags as a token of appreciation for your hard work, sponsored by [illegible smudge]'. Each bag has a tag bearing the name of someone in the mansion; you will only be able to open the bag with your name on it. As soon as you open it, any memories that have been taken from you, including those of the other people in the mansion that you may have forgotten, will be returned in their entirety. Within the bag are also objects from your home that you may want for your stay here, though you will find no weapons.

Past the hall is another door, this one wooden and seemingly decayed. If you go inside, you'll find a fairly simple, wooden room, that is empty except for a very large machine. It is difficult to tell what the machine is for; it has a touch screen that appears to be a control panel, as well as a large open space that seems to be part of the machine, but the machine is dead and won't turn on no matter what you do.

Still, at least you aren't alone here. You have your fellow players, as well as a few guests to keep you company.

Oh, and one more thing. At midnight following each execution, once all those who've died that week have woken up, a video will begin to play on screen.

[He clears his throat, puffs out his cheeks, and speaks in a perky high-pitched voice...well, higher pitched, considering that his normal voice isn't exactly that deep already.]

"Hi, I'm Maya! I sure do love burgers, yum! If you mess with any of my idiot lawyer friends, I'm totally gonna kick your ass! They're huge morons, but they're my subordinates so I gotta look out for them! Did I mention how hungry I am for a burger yet? La la la dead people!"

[It's awful. He's awful. And yet if you ignore what's coming out of his mouth, he kind of does look disturbingly like Maya right now.]

...five million?

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-07-08 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Do not misunderstand. He has the ability, to do so for revenge. Which is what I had feared for that week.

[She does look (mostly) away from the screen to glance toward him, then bow her head and close her eyes for a brief moment.]

But he... [Quick how to phrase this so she doesn't sound like she's knocking the bocchan.] Does not have the temperament... to easily let someone else take the fall for him.

[BASICALLY SHE WAS AFRAID HE'D EITHER TRY TO KILL SOMEONE AND GET KILLED IN SELF-DEFENSE, OR WOULD END UP GETTING EXECUTED. Speaking from personal experience about not letting someone else be scapegoated though. whatmakesyouhaha.avi]
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looks down at a computer screen casting purple light on her intense face. (Serious)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2014-07-08 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Kanaya's arm relaxes at her side all at once, making a soft thump as it strikes the plush of a theater chair. Her eyes are a little less bright now as she looks at Peko, still rather fondly, but distant, no longer seeing her.] The host said at the beginning, when you were searching for secret passages, that for an arbitrary player to have one in her room would be completely unfair, and opportunities would be equal.

This leads to three conjectures for Feferi's presence out of turn. First, she found a secret passage: Probably impossible, as the post-exposure investigation is suggesting. Second, Feferi is an individual with such special privileges as the mastermind possesses: An absurd proposition given her direct, dangerous involvement in a murder.

So if Feferi were not the only person who could access the room, and yet as you yourself know the access to the room were restricted so not every contestant could enter... what is the third possibility?
mightiswright: (the fuck)

[personal profile] mightiswright 2014-07-08 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ IS THAT A POINTED GLARE IN HIS DIRECTION...

Phoenix looks alarmed and distracted at the turn of events with the smoking room, especially at Feferi's reaction to it all. ]

Have they gone insane?
onethirdthesoul: (solemn)

[personal profile] onethirdthesoul 2014-07-08 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
[So that was a yes. Ryou can't look Phoenix in the eyes.]

It wasn't? What was your other reason?

If by insane, you mean insanely awesome, then yeah! [pointing at Apollo on the screen] What's that guy's name again? He's my favorite lawyer, Maya trained him well. Let's give him more stuff he can blow shit up with, I wanna see what's in the museum.
onethirdthesoul: anime (what?!)

[personal profile] onethirdthesoul 2014-07-08 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Just going to interrupt every change he can get, honestly...]

C-can't we talk this through?!
bigthings: (anger)

[personal profile] bigthings 2014-07-08 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Just gonna casually stomp on Ryou's stomach with his foot hard.]

Shut up, you don't get to talk. Maybe you should have thought about talkin' it through before you murdered my sister.
onethirdthesoul: (horror)

[personal profile] onethirdthesoul 2014-07-08 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh! [Ryou lets out a sharp cry, curling up on his side and trying to catch his breath after Kouha moves his foot. He can't even muster a response after that.]

I think the people in those rooms they're holding hostage are, but I've never seen the incentives personally happen.

[ Rapture crosses her free arm, resting a hand in the crook of her elbow. ]

They're just really good at using people's weaknesses. That's how they get others to murder during the slower weeks.
onethirdthesoul: (profile)

[personal profile] onethirdthesoul 2014-07-08 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
... [He really can't argue. It was what it was, even if it didn't make any sense.]

What I don't understand is why they give them back now... It's like a cruel joke, if having those memories would have made the difference between killing and not killing...

onethirdthesoul: anime (:D)

[personal profile] onethirdthesoul 2014-07-08 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
...You're kind, Peko-chan. [Ryou smiles gratefully. She really wasn't the easiest person to talk to, but the fact she offered to talk to him at all after this--and to protect him if anybody tried to kill him--meant a whole lot.]

I can't thank you enough, and... I hope we can get to know each other better. It may be the only bright side to being stuck in place like this.

[ INTENTLY WATCHING THE SCREEN and holding out the plate in Kanaya's direction, want a small fish-shaped pastry? ]

There's a rule about killing more than two people a week, yes? Why would they ever hand out explosives if they care about that rule...blow up a weak point in the building's architecture and the whole thing comes crashing down.
speakveryclearly: Kanaya looks at viewer with brows slightly raised over her eyes, her lips quirked up just enough to reveal two fangs. (Hope)

[personal profile] speakveryclearly 2014-07-09 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
[Gently... doesn't take one, flashing her fangs apologetically.]

The incentives for double murders are new too. I think they want this season to wrap itself up more quickly.

[ There's a long pause. If she's been through all of this before, then... But his incentive was different from the ones rewarded at the end of the game.

Surely... ]

You had them too then? A mastermind and a group of people with... special incentives to kill.
throe: (oOoOO)

[personal profile] throe 2014-07-09 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Astute as any good lawyer, I see.

[ Rapture smirks, but there's nothing in her voice that says she has something against him. ]

We had exactly that. You've got that and then some...
mightiswright: (something sounds off)

[personal profile] mightiswright 2014-07-09 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ He's about to open his mouth to correct her on the 'lawyer' part, but then. ]

And then some? Are you saying there are others?
mightiswright: (i've had worse)

[personal profile] mightiswright 2014-07-09 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ That's not the impression he had from Kuzuryuu. So determined and confident... then again, he might be able to see where she's coming from when he thinks back on how evasive Kuzuryuu was on the topic.

But for someone like her, who obviously cares so much about Kuzuryuu, Phoenix is inclined to keep his mouth shut about her young master's special incentive. Maybe he should've learned his lesson about keeping secrets by now, but it seems too cruel... ]

Even so... if he does go, I'm sure he'll be able to get away with it. The way things are here, it can make people do things they normally wouldn't. Or couldn't.
perfectstrike: (in truth... | それは。。。)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-07-09 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
He won't.

[She sounds completely certain of that.]

If he did not go this week, he will not kill two people and then attempt to have a third be executed in his place. He will not.

It is not our first time in a situation like this one. I know he will not allow someone to be killed for him. It has happened before.
mightiswright: (do you really)

[personal profile] mightiswright 2014-07-09 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ugh, she sounds so sure of herself that he feels responsible for telling her before she has to find out the hard way. ]

There's something you should know about Kuzuryuu's situation. That girl this week... she's his sister, isn't she?
perfectstrike: (500% done)

[personal profile] perfectstrike 2014-07-09 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Something I should know?

[Whatever's going on in the background is ignored completely as she looks to him, brow furrowing as red eyes search his face.]

Yes, she is. He has made no secret of that fact.
mightiswright: (i'm thinking the obvious)

[personal profile] mightiswright 2014-07-09 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's Apollo. [ DISTRACTEDLY...

But then. ]

Maya? ... She didn't train him, as far as I know.
mightiswright: (i've had worse)

[personal profile] mightiswright 2014-07-09 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ He'll make sure no one else is in earshot before he continues. Even if they're all 'dead', he wouldn't have revealed any of their identities if not for it being, well, Peko. ]

He's going to try to kill, to save her. Maybe not this week, or the next... but some time before this all ends.
mightiswright: (sigh)

[personal profile] mightiswright 2014-07-09 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
My daughter. [ This, he answers frankly and honestly. ]

From the beginning, I was shown what would happen to her if I didn't play along with this game.
