GUEST ETIQUETTE

All guests at Craven Castle are expected to conform to the following rules of etiquette. Any violation of the rules will be publicly announced.

Residential Rules
→ All shall wake in a timely fashion. Rooms will be cleaned daily at 10 AM, and must be vacated between 10 and 11.
→ Cleaning shall comprise tidying, a change of linens and clothing, a replenishing of all courtesy items, and an emptying of all bins. No other items will be removed. All linens and rubbish will be placed in collection bins and stored for two days before disposal.
→ Guests may choose to forego cleaning service by placing a sign on their door knob, but will still be expected to vacate promptly at 10.
→ All guests will sleep in their assigned bedrooms, and are not permitted to sleep elsewhere.
→ There shall be no littering on the grounds. Burial of executed corpses or victims after their trial has ended will not count as littering.
→ Animal cruelty will not be tolerated. With the exception of fish and bugs, any attempts to mistreat or kill an animal will be punished severely.
→ It will not be permitted for players to break down or destroy doors or walls except when related to committing a murder or investigation of a crime.

Mealtimes

→ Breakfast is served promptly at 6 AM in the breakfast nook. There will be no allowances for those who miss breakfast.
→ Lunch is served between noon and 1 PM in the reception hall, and tea is served in the tea room between 2 and 5.
→ Dinner is served in the dining room between 6 PM and 8 PM. Attendance at dinner is mandatory for all players. No individual will arrive at dinner more than fifteen minutes late, and none shall depart before 8 PM.
→ Each Sunday, a ball will be held in the ballroom during the dinner hours. Dinner will be provided. All guests are required to attend for the duration of the dinner hours and dress according to the weekly theme.
→ After dinner drinks and desserts will be provided in the parlour for ladies and in the games parlour for gentlemen from 8 PM to midnight.

Restricted Areas

→ Between the hours of 8 PM and midnight, only ladies are permitted in the parlour.
→ Between the hours of 8 PM and midnight, only gentlemen are permitted in the games parlour.
→ The theater shall be locked to guests except between the hours of 8 PM and midnight or when trials are in session.
→ A lady will not enter a room belonging to a male guest, nor will a gentleman enter the room of a female guest. Any time longer than a half hour spent in such a room will be in violation of the rules.
→ The armory shall be locked to guests between 8 PM and 11 PM, and also between 2 AM and 5 AM.
The servants' hallway and quarters shall be off-limits to anyone without the proper key. The servants wing and staircase are hereby designated a prohibited area.
→ Prohibited areas are not part of the game area, and need not be considered at trial. Only the acting Host has or ever will have the means to enter and exit these areas. Prohibited areas may not be used by anyone, including the Host, to advance a murder within the rules of the game.
→ Guests are to be mindful of water conservation, and are not to bathe between midnight and 6 AM.
→ Gentlemen are forbidden to enter the Roman baths from 3 PM to 6 PM. Ladies are forbidden to enter the baths from 9 PM to 11 PM. The baths are open to everyone at all other times.

Appropriate Attire

→ Ladies and gentlemen shall dress in appropriate attire when leaving their wing. Appropriate attire for a lady consists of a dress or skirt and blouse, and appropriate attire for a gentleman consists of trousers and a men's shirt.
→ Guests will wear formal attire to dinner.
→ Gentlemen will wear caps while out on the grounds, except while bathing or riding. Gentlemen will remove their caps while inside the chapel, at dinner, or when meeting a lady.

CONTESTANT RULES

Basic Rules
→ Each week, a new motive will be provided.
→ Only one murder plot may occur in a given week, although multiple victims are acceptable.
→ No individual may kill more than two players in any given week.
→ Once a death occurs, a trial will be found to determine the guilty party. Investigation and discussion time will be allowed prior to the trial and voting. The culprit will be one among a list of suspects provided.
→ All culprits will be verified before trials via video feed. If the identity of a culprit is unable to be verified, or if there is no video of the crime, the players will be informed prior to trial. Should this condition occur, the acting Host will be included among the list of valid suspects.
Each player must vote for an individual currently residing within the castle. No abstentions will be permitted, and attempts to avoid the vote will be punished by death. The culprit will always be among the list of suspects given at trial. Any player who attempts to vote for someone who is not one of the listed suspects will be punished accordingly. The proper punishment for failure to vote for a valid suspect is death.
→ The suspect who receives the most votes will be executed, regardless of guilt.
→ Should the guilty party be executed, the players will be informed of the guilt.

Investigations
→ An investigation begins once the body has been found. Once three individuals have discovered the body, the grandfather clock will chime to herald the investigation.
→ If the body is hidden, players will be informed of the death no later than Thursday at noon.
→ An autopsy report detailing the condition of the body will be provided.
→ All clues found may be disclosed at trial. If a player chooses to withhold evidence, the deception may be revealed.
Rooms will not be cleaned on trial days. Rooms will not be cleaned from the time of the body discovery to when the trial ends.

Murders
→ Culprits may use any and all available means to commit the crime.
→ An accidental death or a killing in self-defense will still be considered a crime.
→ It is permissible for a culprit to work with an accomplice. However, the prizes rewarded will be determined by the number of victims. Therefore, an accomplice will not be rewarded unless there is a victim in addition to the original.
→ An accomplice will always be listed among the suspects, but only one execution will take place.
→ The true culprit will be the one who most directly commits the deed. But where there is debate over the true culprit, both directness and intent to commit a murder will be considered.
→ Announced awards, announced sponsorships, items accounted for in information cards, and hidden opportunities equally discoverable by all players are the only means by which a player may validly receive weapons and tools to use in a murder. Should any player acquire any substantial advantage from the Host and affiliates or not available to all other players, the players as a whole will be informed.

Prizes
→ A week's motives and prizes will always be announced Monday evening.
→ Prizes will only be rewarded to a culprit who successfully commits murder and survives the trial.
→ A successful killer may choose to retire from the game. He or she will remain in the castle, but there will be no reward for causing his or her death.
→ A successful killer may choose to continue to play for additional, personalized prizes. In this case, his or her guilt will not be revealed to the other players.
→ Any culprit who kills two people in a single week and gets away with it will receive both the incentive of the week and a previous incentive from any week of their choosing. This does not apply to any kills done with an accomplice.

Incentives
→ Incentives may include helpful tools, gifts, or information.
→ Players who are deemed to have performed well will be given special incentives for their trouble.
→ Players who are deemed to have performed poorly will be made into incentives. A culprit who successfully kills such a player will be given an incentive.
→ The players who are considered most valuable may receive "immunity." A crime with an immune player as victim will not be eligible for prizes.
→ A list of player performances and which players are incentives will be provided Sunday afternoon.

Rules for the Finale
→ Retired players may now play again! They will receive permanent immunity status, but are permitted to participate in earning incentives and will be able to vote at trials!
→ Any player who succeeds in killing and getting away with it at trial will be permitted to return home with all unclaimed prizes!
→ The popularity rankings have been abolished! A culprit who targets any player will be able to choose two prizes from the attached list OR nullify the target's special abilities before the kill. Simply let us in on the plan in the privacy of your own room, and your prizes will be delivered to you!
→ Should a murder not occur within three days, a new incentive will be added each day until one happens.
→ In the event any player is successful, all other players will be executed.
→ The game will end when one player succeeds in killing and going home or if the identity of the True Mastermind is proven beyond any doubt.

In the back of the rulebook, there is also a map of the grounds and the castle layout.
